Description of Problem: Homeowners of the exclusive St. Moritz Isle in the environmentally sensitive Tahoe Keys Resort were faced with an immediate concern: Over 100 homes and properties were being threatened by progressive structural failure of a sheet pile bulkhead that separated their residential properties from Lake Tahoe.
Site / Design Conditions: Several sections of the seawall bulkhead failed during the winter of 1993.

Project Site: 7670 Bush Lake Drive; Bloomington, Minnesota (U.S.A.). Residential retaining wall on "spec" home.
Description of Problem: Local site conditions preclude normal excavation for installation of geo grid for this type of wall.
Site / Design Conditions:
Wall #1 4.2' - 4.8' tall
Wall #2 6'4" above and 5' - 14' behind wall #1
Access only from driveway in front of walls.
Proposed Solution / Selected Solution: Where excavation is impossible or impractical, this type of wall could not be installed.
